WHAT WE DO
The Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Western District of Washington provides zealous and empathetic representation to people charged with crimes in the federal legal system. Our highly trained lawyers, investigators, paralegals, social workers, experts, technical support staff and administrators work together to obtain the best possible results for our clients. We commit our knowledge, experience, litigation skills and resources to defend and support clients at all stages of the legal process – pretrial, trial, sentencing, appellate, and supervised release.
WHAT WE VALUE
Our office values diversity, is committed to equity and inclusion, and seeks a culture of mutual respect and collaboration that supports and advances the work we do. We believe representation is better when the members of our defense teams have diverse backgrounds and experiences that reflect the communities we serve and provide a broad base of knowledge, talents, and insights. Excellence comes in many forms from many places, and we welcome anyone who believes in justice for everyone.
“None of us got where we are solely by pulling ourselves up by our bootstraps. We got here because somebody - a parent, a teacher, an Ivy League crony or a few nuns - bent down and helped us pick up our boots.” Thurgood Marshall.
STAND STRONG AND SPEAK OUT
“We can have democracy or we can have the concentration of wealth in the hands of a few. We cannot have both.” Louis D. Brandeis.
